With the monsoons finally upon us it has
become necessary to harvest our sunflowers.
This is the head of my 12 footer.
It is huge!
Today I had a special helper, my husband.
What a delight it is when we can work together.
sunflower stock so that we can hang
them to finish drying.
He tied a rope up in his garage.
Notice the knots in the rope,
this is to keep them from sliding to the middle.
until time to prepare them for storage.
I will have enough seeds to last another
three years until I plant sunflowers again.

Those things are amazing! I love that you are hanging them in the garage to finish drying! That is cool. :)
ReplyDeleteThat Mar-Kay is so clever and helpful.
ReplyDeleteThe size of those sunflowers is astonishing.
Those are amazing. so what do you do with all the seeds and how many (lbs. ?) do you get from each head? Is there a reason you only plant them every three years?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure how many pounds I get from each head because they differ in size. I only plant them once every three years because it takes us that long to eat them all. I use them mostly for homemade granola. They are a novelty to grow but a pain to shell.
